What a week I have had! On Tuesday I received a congratulatory email stating that I had won an award with the work I had sent to an Art Show in Plano, Texas. I was SOOOOOO excited! But the awards were present on Thursday to an event that I could not travel too. But they had a webcast of it you could listen to with synced slides.
The wait for Thursday afternoon to come was almost unbearable!
Finally Thursday arrived and I signed in to the web cast. Well to make a long story short, my digital illustration Chocolate won First Place in the category of computer art, and my kaleidoscope with my giraffes won honorable mention in enhanced photography! Since my pieces won awards they will now be shipped to Dallas Texas where they will be displayed in the North Park Gallery to be seen by an estimated 2 million people! What an honor! Now the question most people ask is "how much money did you win?" I didn't win any monies, I just did it for the recognition. What an ego boost that was!
Maybe getting in the Texas Market will have some kind of ripple effect and I will get someone calling me asking me for more! I hope so!
One bit of bad news....I had worked so hard on the multimedia piece for the Chicago show and with all the excitement of this event I totally forgot to mail it in until it was too late to get it to them in time.....all that work.....sigh....I need to find a new show to submit my multimedia piece to. I believe there was probably a reason I didn't get it submitted to the Chicago gallery. I will see the purpose in this later, I suppose!
I keep saying I am going to get a planner just for art show deadlines, that I can keep track of these deadlines.

Today
Today is Saturday, I am determined that I will work on my journal today sometime. I need to do some drawing.
I received word that my artwork arrived in Plano Texas, and all is well. No breakage, all in one piece! For $160 I should hope so!
This thursday they will put all the entries online to be judged by all the employees world wide. I can't wait to see what I am up against! It is exciting, I am not allowed to solict votes from those I work with but I can get them to the site and voting!
I am almost done with the video and can't wait to get it submitted to the art show in Chicago. I just want to get it packaged nicely in a well designed DVD video cover. I feel perfection in everything and appearing professional is important. No half-assed presentation. If you want to be taken professionally you must act the part.

New Project
Okay many art galleries are displaying new media, slide shows, animations, etc... There is a call for art at a gallery up by chicago and they are accepting this media, so I figured I would have a better chance to get in the show if I entered my animated kaliedoscopes. So I am building a DVD with 15 - one minute animations of my artwork. I will only have to mail a DVD case.
I have also had several people say I should make screen savers. Do people really buy screen savers? I am not sure about this. I know how to do it but I am not sure it would be worth the time and energy to pursue this.
There is kaleidoscope convention every year that it might be worth it to create screen savers to sell at a table at that convention, as well as display my artworks and sell them.
I really must get a membership in the Brewsters Kaleidoscope Society. That might help promote my work as well.
So my goal for this month is to become a member of BKS.

I did it!
I did it! I took the plunge entered a show out of state, was accepted into the show and shipped off two of the my pieces. No wonder they call us starving artists. It cost me $160 just to package and ship those two pieces the largest being 24"x24"! Wow! That is precisly why I don't quit my day job!
The next piece I am getting ready will be much much cheaper to enter. More on that later, I am not ready to talk about it yet!

What I have been doing
I have been busy. I found out that my employer (a worldwide corp) has an employee art show. So I submitted two of my pieces of work, they were accepted and now I must get busy and ship off the first pieces of art that I have ever put into a show that was not local! It is exciting, but yet I grumble because of the expense of it. The expense does little to detract from the excitement of a show out of state. There will be entries from all over the world! They choose a peoples choice award voted on by the entire corporation, and then best of show. I can't wait.
I have also been busily working on my digital media piece to submit to a show in Chicago. I feel like I have a better chance of getting in a show with my digital media as more galleries are wanting this type of work but yet they get very few submissions for it. So... here is hoping. It will also be much cheaper to ship!
